We care about our environment, so in Galeria Katowicka we introduce various innovative solutions, which have a real impact on its condition. Planet Earth is our home, which cannot be replaced by another, so let’s take care of our common good!
The functioning of shopping centres requires an extensive technical background, which is invisible in the commercial and service part of the centre. Air handling units, cooling units, fire safety systems or basic and emergency lighting systems are just some of the basic structures necessary for the proper functioning of the building.
Adequate management of such a large number of systems in such a way that their effects do not have a destructive impact on the environment requires, above all, great awareness, knowledge and willingness to introduce innovative solutions.
what are we doing in katowicka?
We support the so-called green initiatives:
- bicycle is a healthier solution for both the environment and the cyclist – that is why there are bicycle racks and a repair station next to the Gallery
- charging station for electric vehicles is available on the premises of the Gallery – electric cars can easily recharge their batteries here
WE CREATE OWN GREEN ACTIONS:
- Clothes full of power – it is an action during which we give clothes a second life and raise funds for ecological initiatives. In 2021 we collected over 5 tonnes of clothes, which the Ubrania do oddania [Clothes for giveaway] service refreshes and puts back into circulation. In the meantime, we have collected over 5000 PLN for an eco-mural which will be created in Katowice in 2022 on our initiative. The missing amount will be paid by the Gallery! The second edition of the action is planned for 2022.
- KatoFarma in the very centre of the city! In the centre of Katowice we will build a farm where we will plant, grow and harvest real vegetables! This place is not only perfect for relaxation, but also for education – children and adults will learn here which ecological actions are easy to perform, we will encourage everyone to act!
- our new website has an option to choose a dark theme – it is well-known fact that a darker screen consumes less energy!
WE HELP YOU IN ECO-CHOICES
We have created a very comfortable EKO-KĄCIK, where you can recycle everything that you didn’t know what to do with before! Unused computer equipment, broken cables, old phones, batteries and toners! You can also leave glass and plastic bottles and cans in our CORNER – all for the benefit of the environment!
EKO-KĄCIK is located on level -2, at the entrance from the underground car park from the side of Carrefour.
ECOLABEL CERTIFICATE
Galeria Katowicka cooperates with a cleaning company that has received the EU Ecolabel certificate recognized throughout Europe
EU Ecolabel is an official European distinction awarded to environmentally friendly products and services that meet high quality and health standards. This is a confirmation that the company Galeria Katowicka cooperates with provides environmentally friendly cleaning agents that have been assessed by an independent body and meet stringent environmental and health requirements.
And that is not all! Furthermore, in Galeria Katowicka!
- we conduct selective waste collection
- we ensure that the cleaning agents used for cleaning the Gallery are environment-friendly
- year by year, we reduce power consumption by monitoring the actual status of the meter, analysing it and introducing optimisation solutions
- we analyse the behaviour of customers and tenants, adjusting the lighting level, depending on how often and at what times a given space is used
- we control and reduce the noise level in the Gallery area
- where possible, we introduce motion sensors, which activate lights or escalators for people who need them
