We would like to invite you to an event closing the “Light of Times – Photography Masters” cycle. It will be held in the HIGHER LEVEL PROJECT Zone on Saturday, February 20, at 7 p.m.
The evening at Negatyw Gallery will kick off with the “In/Visible” theater play and a photo exhibition prepared by students from the Dance Theater in Bytom. Adriana Świątek will deliver a speech on the combination of photography and performative art.
“In/Visible” was originally an accompanying event for the “Personalities” exhibition of works by Nadar (Gaspard-Félix Tournachon), one that attempted to interpret the French artist’s collection of photos.
A clash of photography and movement, two seemingly opposite arts, served as an inspiration for a play in which light is an impulse for a moving body. It transforms an immovable creature into a living and grotesquely deformed shape that keeps evolving as we watch, shifting between the visible and the invisible.
Works on the play also resulted in the production of a movie in which a face acts as the main character. The authors draw on Nadar’s art interests. Since the French photographer was primarily known for his portraits, the filmmakers decided to showcase a face presenting a range of expressions and grimaces. The movie is like a living portrait and the viewers can see every tiniest detail of the expressions.
Those who love photography are bound to enjoy a chance to buy catalogs documenting the exhibitions which have made up the “Light of Times – Photography Masters” cycle, as well as albums of Michał Cała who was one of the cycle’s protagonists, with an exhibition named “Silesia and Galicia.”
