“Don’t pass by indifferently – donate your blood in front of Galeria Katowicka!” is the slogan used by the Regional Blood Donation and Transfusion Medicine Center (RCKiK) in Katowice in their new campaign for blood donation. RCKiK bloodmobile is open for blood donors every Monday between 10 am and 5 pm at Plac Szewczyka, in front of Galeria Katowicka. The change of the previous blood donation point was the result of the success of this year’s Wampiriada.
– This year’s Wampiriada, the blood collection initiative carried out in the special bloodmobile – Vampiro-bus – in which the RCKiK employees are drawing blood, dressed up as vampires and witches, was organised in a new location. Instead of the Market Square, we parked the bus in front of Galeria Katowicka. So many blood donors volunteered that we had to arrange a second bloodmobile! That was the source of the idea to organise blood collection events weekly in that spot, at Plac Szewczyka – says Aleksadra Dyląg from RCKiK in Katowice.
The results of the first Monday blood collection in front of Galeria Katowicka were very promising. We had 49 potential donors, out of which 30 gave their blood. For comparison, a week before Wampiriada (October 21), at the Katowice Market Square, there were 22 volunteers and after verification 14 gave their blood. In this year’s Wampiriada at Plac Szewczyka we had 111 potential donors and we drew blood from 76 persons, what gave us a record amount of collected blood – 34 litres.
– We encourage people not to pass our bloodmobile by indifferently and to donate blood in front of Galeria Katowicka. Our mobile blood donation centre will be parked at Plac Szewczyka and open for donors every Monday between 10 am and 5 pm. We hope that blood donors will get used to the new blood collection point and our Monday events will still be so popular.
Galeria Katowicka, as it was in the case of Wampiriada, is the partner of the Monday events organised by RCKiK in Katowice.
